"First of May"

I’m not wearing any jacket this morning. Crazy? No. Not really. In fact, not at all. It was 82 degree yesterday, and I bet it would be somewhere near that today as well. It’s bright, sunny, warm, and not windy at all. A beautiful day, a very beautiful morning.

So last Friday, I had this dance performance with my, supposedly, Balinese Dance group. We were opening the Indonesian Film Festival at Stanford. There were only 2 guys (Rinaldo and I) and four girls, which made me paired with 2 girls, as well as Rinaldo. It was quite a “crash program” dance, as we would say. We didn’t get there until 6 pm while the performance was scheduled at 6.05. When we got there everybody was like waiting for us. Rinaldo hadn’t changed yet. So I had to help Rinaldo change in about 5 minutes. With around 50 people watching us, it was quite a successful performance, I guess. People seemed to enjoy the movements that we’ve been doing over and over in every single performance. And well, I will say that I’m glad that it’s over with.

The good part is, there was this photographer friend of Bea’s who took our pictures during the preparation, performance, and after the performance. Since he is quite a professional photographer, the pictures turned out to be very good. You can see it here.

Anyway, the film festival itself was quite nice. They showed 3 films in total, one for each day through Sunday. On Friday, it was a film called “Gie.” It was about a youth (student) activist in Indonesia during the revolution era of 1960s. It was not a bad movie, people seemed to enjoy it. It’s just that, I don’t know, a little too political for an opening night, I guess. They could’ve showed something lighter, something that everyone will like, something that will set the tone and the mood for the festival. For me? I leaved during the middle of the film. It’s just that I was so tired, and I had to go to dinner with Paul and Craig.

Weekend was generally okay. With the kids staying over, we were quite occupied with entertaining them. We had dinner at Shan Restaurant on Friday, and then they rented some DVD to watch together. Sunday morning, Benjamin and Charlotte helped me mowing the lawn. They really enjoyed it. It’s funny how kids enjoy doing what adults sometime despise doing.

Anyway, today’s Monday. Not a favorite day of the week. It will be hectic at work. Oh well, let’s don’t talk about it. It’s too frustrating. I’ll see ya soon? Bye!

--Afternoon Journal—

So, apparently my morning went quite well in terms of getting to work on time. The bus that I was supposed to catch (which was scheduled to get to Mountain View at around 8.37 or 8.38) was a little bit late. Which is good for me (normally I would bitch out about it) since I could catch it. So I took the bus, got to work before 9, and you read my previous posting on time. Neat, huh?

Anyway, the day is over, I am now at the train station waiting in Mountain View for my train (to get home). The day was okay, I talked with my boss, Nimish, about my “emotional email,” as he said, replying to his bitching about some stuff that I haven’t got the chance to review in the database. I thought he felt bad when he was reading my email since early in the morning we ran into each other he just asked how I was doing. He didn’t mention about the email or anything. Later, he told me that we would need to talk after lunch.

I talked with him, and well.. all is well, and we decided to find solution for the problem as well as other problems with the database. We tried to call John Thorpe regarding some issues with Oracle. John used to work for Oracle, apparently. But then John was not available to answer the call. We just left him a message, and I wrote him an email outlining the questions that I need to ask him. A couple hours later, he answered my email. Very detail, very clear, and sounds very exciting. Well, apparently, John feels like it is something that he is very familiar with so he’d like to share his knowledge with us. His answers actually clear out all the issues that I encountered with database. That way, I could move on with cleaning up Oracle products in the database.

By the way, there was supposed to be this big rally and/or non-working day today by immigrant workers as a response to the current immigration law that sets all illegal immigrants for either deportation or as a criminal defense (duh, whatever they call it). But around here, I see that everything went just fine. Nothing really changed this far. Everybody still came to work today (well, probably because none of the employees of my company is a Latino, which is the major part of the rally). But on Yahoo News, I didn’t really see that big news about it. Maybe not, yet. I don’t know. I’ll try to find out about it and maybe later write something more serious on how I think about this issue. Oh well, don’t take it as a promise, only if I feel like doing it later.

Oh, another interesting thing happened this morning. My brother called. He called all the way from Indonesia, just it say hi and check how I am doing. I was like, “Dude, this is too expensive calling from your place to here. Let me just call you back later when I get home.” He said it’s okay; he was just trying to se if it works (it was 2 am in the morning for God’s sake). It works. And in the meantime, I asked him if everything was okay (which was the very first thing that I worried about when someone from home calls). He said everything’s okay, and I said the same with me. So I will probably call him later tonight, and maybe call my other brothers and sisters, and hopefully I will get to talk to my mom or dad.

Okay then, I guess my train is almost coming. Ah.. here it is, but not the baby bullet. I will wait for the baby bullet cause it’s much faster than this regular one. Besides, it’s much cleaner and nicer. But anyway, I’ll end it here and, hopefully will see ya tomorrow?
